Abstract

This paper critically examines how caste-based boundaries are reproduced within the Indian diaspora through the Netflix reality show Indian Matchmaking, using the Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (MCDA). The show offers a unique lens to explore how media representations of marriage practices subtly reinforce caste hierarchies under the guise of cultural and community preferences. By analyzing spoken dialogues and semiotic resources—such as visual cues, narrative structures, and character interactions—this research delves into how the show perpetuates caste distinctions, often framing them as natural or desirable preferences rather than social inequalities.
