This paper will explore such instances in the Śaivakāñcīmāhātmya, by looking into the different ways in which the deprecation of a sect or divinity is achieved. Based on this analysis, it will reflect upon the significance of the text’s sectarian stand, in terms of contest and coexistence, in the confines of Kanchipuram.
