44 – Narratives of Women, Violence and Memory in South AsiaAbstract
The War of 1971, which involved both wings of Pakistan and India and led to the formation of Bangladesh, has been explored from various perspectives in literature. A limited number of Urdu novels by Pakistani authors address the war, presenting differing angles and interpretations. Khaleej is one of the few novels that deals with the violence against women during the War of 1971. Set on the battlefield, this novel directly addresses the sufferings caused by the war, including gendered violence and its psychological impact.
