Abstract

Through a case study approach, this research examines multiple Fijian Indian families to understand how caste identity is negotiated and reinforced across generations. The study delves into the dynamic interactions between older and younger generations, particularly analyzing how social media platforms—such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—serve as spaces for both the reinforcement and contestation of caste-based norms. These platforms allow caste identity to be expressed, shared, and discussed, where older generations often reinforce traditional caste values, while younger members may challenge or negotiate their inherited caste identities.
