Abstract

The research findings reveal that Dalit women students often encounter multiple layers of discrimination, both overt and subtle, which hinder their academic progress and overall well-being. These discriminatory practices are perpetuated by institutional structures, societal biases, and the prevailing caste-based hierarchies. The study uncovers the mechanisms employed by educational institutions to uphold these discriminatory practices, including biased evaluation systems, limited access to resources and opportunities, and social exclusion in various aspects of campus life. Based on the research findings, several recommendations are proposed to address the challenges faced by Dalit women students in higher education institutions. These recommendations focus on fostering inclusive educational environments, promoting diversity and representation, implementing anti-discrimination policies, and offering support mechanisms tailored to the specific needs of Dalit women students. The suggestions provided by the interlocutors, who actively participated in the research, have been incorporated to ensure the proposed recommendations are practical and effective. This research contributes to the existing literature on Dalit women’s experiences in higher education by providing a nuanced understanding of their struggles and the mechanisms that perpetuate their marginalization.
